What stays free, what Pro adds, and how upgrades work.
- Is the core platform really free? Yes. Windshift is available under AGPL v3. The core platform has no license key, user limit, workspace limit, or usage meter.
- How does Windshift fund development? Organizations that need audit logging, SCIM provisioning, SAML, commercial licensing, or priority support will be able to add Pro for $8/user/month. Pro revenue funds ongoing development of both editions.
- Can I migrate from Jira Data Center? Yes. The Jira importer carries projects, issues, comments, attachments, worklogs, boards, sprints, custom fields, and field values into Windshift. You can run a test import before planning the production move.
- Can I start free and add Pro later? Yes. Pro uses the same self-hosted installation and data. When Pro becomes available, adding it will not require a migration to another platform or hosting model.
- Can I use the AGPL edition commercially? Yes. AGPL v3 allows commercial use. Your organization remains responsible for complying with the license when modifying or distributing the software.
- What do I need to run Windshift? Windshift runs as a single binary on Linux, macOS, or Windows. SQLite is embedded for a straightforward start, or you can connect PostgreSQL for your deployment.
